Molly & Trent: A Colorful Wedding Inspired by the Amalfi Coast

Weddings

Inspired by their love of the Amalfi Coast, we designed Molly and Trent’s wedding to feature the colors and flavors of Capri. The ceremony featured bright blooms, including bougainvillea. In cocktail hour, guests were greeted with Negronis and Aperol Spritzes, and then found their seats for dinner on custom, hand-painted postcards featuring scenes from Molly and Trent’s travels. Dinner took place on a terrace created to look like a restaurant in Capri: we created citrus trees, used bright florals and patterned linens, and covered the bistro lights in crawling vines to create an immersive space.

Molly & Trent’s wedding design was all about bold colors, abundant florals, and personal details. The vision was for the design to reflect the personalities of the couple. The design was inspired by the couple’s love for both the Amalfi Coast, and Santa Barbara. colorful, floral-forward design to spark joy in guests. We wanted the guests to enjoy the Santa Barbara coastline at ceremony, and then be be transported to the Amalfi Coast for dinner.

The bridal party walked down the aisle to la vie en rose (Edith Piaf). Opie, the canine ring bearer, walked down the aisle with rings attached to his bow tie. Molly was accompanied by her father up until the entrance of the aisle where she then walked down to Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley. Friend Ran, read “Married love” by Kuan Tao-Sheng, and other friend, Matt, read “Touched by an Angel” by Maya Angelou. Molly and Trent were married by their dear friend, Steve Degnen.

Watercolor was a design theme throughout the wedding. The wedding weekend map, escort postcards, and menus where all custom watercolored for the couple by K Designs. Even the table linens resembled watercolor.

The showstopper at cocktail hour was the custom wall displaying watercolored postcards of the couple’s favorite landscaped on the Amalfi Coast, and accented by potted flowers.

The Aperol Spritzes were a staple of cocktail hour, as was the Negroni! These specialty cocktails complimented the orange and white striped linens while alluding to the overall Amalfi coast theme. Guests enjoyed a number of Butler passed Hors D’oeuvres, including Fig and Goat Cheese Flatbread, and Ahi Poke Cones.

The escort cards were custom postcards by K Designs that carried a personal message from the couple for each guest. The postcards had watercolors of the couple’s favorite spots on the Amalfi coast: Positano, Capri, and Sorrento. Guests were thrilled by the experience of finding their name, opening the envelope, and reading their message!

Guests were speechless when they entered the terrace to find the reception graced with enchanting “lemon tree” installations climbing up the walls and hovering over the tables.

The plated dinner was a choice of Braised Beef Short Rib, Hazelnut and Herb-crusted Barramundi, or Whipped Ricotta and Broccoli Ravioli. The wedding cake was prepared by The Ritz Carlton pastry chef: Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Filling, and Vanilla Chiffon with Fresh Raspberry Fruit Filling. Tyler Speier then decorated it with bright blooms to compliment the flowers throughout the wedding’s design.
