Weddings

The day of Sita and Nikhil’s Indian wedding dawned bright and clear, a perfect start to their celebration. As the wedding planner, designer, and florist, I was thrilled to see months of planning come to fruition.

Indian Wedding Morning Preparations: Beauty and Excitement

The morning was a flurry of activity as Sita and Nikhil prepared for their big day. A soft palette of pinks and golds, a popular choice for Indian weddings, created an elegant look.

A professional turban tier was on hand to create intricate headwear for the groom and his entourage. This traditional Indian wedding custom added a regal touch to the groom’s attire.

The Baraat: A Grand Indian Wedding Tradition

One of the most iconic traditions in Indian weddings is the Baraat, where the groom arrives at the ceremony with a procession of family and friends. Nikhil’s Baraat was a grand affair, with the groom riding a white horse and carrying a sword. The procession was accompanied by the rhythmic beats of the dhol, a traditional Indian drum, creating a festive atmosphere. As Nikhil made his way towards the mandap, he was greeted with cheers and applause from the guests. We love this high-energy start to the celebration!

Indian Wedding Ceremony: Steeped in Tradition

Following the excitement of the Baraat, guests were directed towards the ceremony space, a lawn nestled amongst the trees. A “doorway” arch marked the entrance, covered in greenery and vibrant blooms in shades of fuchsia, orange, and red. This floral arch welcomed guests into the ceremony space.

The Mandap, a traditional four-pillared structure, was the focal point of the ceremony, symbolizing the home Sita and Nikhil would build together. We adorned the mandap with fresh flowers, including garlands of marigolds – a symbol of good luck in Indian culture – interwoven with roses, dahlias, and greenery. The result was a beautiful display of colors and textures.

Sita, radiant in an ivory lehenga, was escorted down the aisle by her family. The ceremony was a blend of ancient rituals and personal touches. Sita and Nikhil exchanged garlands, symbolizing their acceptance of one another, and participated in the sacred fire ceremony, where they offered prayers and vows of commitment. The seven steps around the fire, known as the “Saptapadi,” solidified their union, each step representing a promise for their future together.

An Indian Wedding Reception to Remember

As the sun set, the celebration moved to Greengate’s indoor event space. Guests were greeted by a dramatic entrance: a tunnel draped in ivory fabric. The brighter colors of the ceremony gave way to a more romantic ambiance for the reception.

Rich jewel tones dominated the decor, with taupe fabric draped above the tables. Overhead, we installed lush floral installations, overflowing with blooms and greenery.

The tables were adorned with centerpieces, featuring jewel-toned flowers, candlelight, and floral-painted taper candles. Each place setting had a personalized menu designed by Sita.

Guests enjoyed a traditional Indian buffet catered by Jalsa Catering. A sitar player filled the air with melodies.

Sita and Nikhil made a grand entrance in new attire. Sita wore a red lehenga, while Nikhil wore a tuxedo, complete with a pair of Louis Vuitton shoes with a red heel.

The reception was filled with toasts, laughter, and dancing. Sita and Nikhil’s loved ones celebrated with speeches and performances on a custom dance floor.

Reflections on an Indian Wedding Weekend

Sita and Nikhil’s wedding weekend reminded me why I love planning Indian weddings. The rich traditions, the vibrant colors, the joyous celebrations – it’s a unique experience. This wedding was special, with highlights including the floral arch at the ceremony, the performances at the Sangeet, and the reception space.

Greengate Ranch & Vineyard was the perfect venue for this event. The venue’s rustic charm and natural beauty created an ideal setting for Sita and Nikhil’s Indian wedding. It was an honor to be a part of their special day.
