Greengate Ranch & Vineyard in San Luis Obispo set the stage for Sita and Nikhil’s unforgettable Indian wedding weekend. Their celebration beautifully blended traditional Indian elements with the rustic charm of the California countryside. The Sangeet, a pre-wedding celebration filled with music and dance, was a highlight of the weekend, showcasing the couple’s love and the joy of their families.

Haldi: Blessings of Turmeric

On Friday morning, the Haldi ceremony took place outdoors under the warm California sun. Loved ones applied a fragrant turmeric paste on Sita and Nikhil, symbolizing purity and prosperity for their upcoming marriage. This more intimate celebration provided an opportunity for the family to gather before the rest of the guests joined. 

Sangeet: A Celebration of Joy and Connection

The Sangeet, held at Greengate Ranch after the Haldi ceremony, was an explosion of energy and emotion. The word “Sangeet” literally translates to “sung together,” and this celebration lived up to its name!

 

The Tradition of the Sangeet

Traditionally, the Sangeet was a time for women to gather, sing folk songs, and celebrate the bride’s upcoming marriage. Today, the Sangeet has evolved into a much larger celebration involving both families, with music, dancing, and performances taking center stage. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the two families to bond, let loose, and share in the joy of the upcoming union.

What makes a Sangeet so special is the personal touch. Often, family and friends will choreograph elaborate dances or prepare heartfelt speeches and songs dedicated to the couple. It’s a beautiful display of love and support, and it truly sets the tone for the wedding celebrations to come.

A Festive Atmosphere at Greengate Ranch

Sita and Nikhil’s lively Sangeet unfolded under the stars outside the beautiful barn at Greengate Ranch. The atmosphere was playful and festive, with a focus on pinks and oranges in the decor.  My favorite design element was the triangular menus on the tables! 

Woven elements in the candle holders and lampshades hanging overhead added a touch of natural charm, while flower garlands strung along with the twinkle lights created a whimsical, garden-party vibe. The overall effect was colorful and vibrant, reflecting the joyous spirit of the occasion.
