As a wedding planner, I’ve seen countless love stories unfold, but Ali and Patrick’s wedding was truly something out of a fairytale. Their vision was clear: to infuse their Irish heritage with the timeless charm of Montecito, creating an atmosphere that felt both grand and intimate. And let me tell you, it was nothing short of magical.
In addition to the wedding festivities, guests were greeted with thoughtful welcome bags upon arrival at their hotel. These green bags were lined with black and white toile patterned tissue paper, echoing the wedding’s design aesthetic. Inside, guests found delightful treats such as fresh tangerines from the local farmers market presented in little baskets, mini Chandon bottles, Santa Barbara Popcorn, truffles, and a welcome letter outlining the weekend’s itinerary.
Our journey began at the stunning church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Montecito. The church itself is a vision, but to elevate the entrance, we designed an oversized arch that framed the doors. Lush greenery created a dramatic and welcoming statement. It was the perfect prelude to the beautiful ceremony within.
From there, we transitioned to the iconic Montecito Club, where the real transformation began. The couple’s desire to evoke the feeling of an Irish castle guided every design decision. The cocktail hour, held on the lawn overlooking the breathtaking Santa Barbara coastline, was a masterclass in sophisticated comfort. We styled the bar with black and white toile patterned wallpaper and elegant brass lamps, creating a cozy yet chic ambiance. Dark green velvet lounges, adorned with toile patterned pillows and abundant, lush florals, provided comfortable seating for guests to mingle, drink Guinness on tap, and enjoy the stunning views.
The cocktail hour featured a traditional Celtic folk band. This Irish Trio consisted of a Mandolin, Guitar, Fiddle and Percussion. Their performance incorporated a mixture of traditional Irish songs, adding to the Irish-inspired ambiance of the event.
But the true spectacle awaited in the reception ballroom. This was where the Irish castle inspiration truly came to life. We aimed for an immersive design, a space that would transport guests to another world. To achieve this, we built large trees on the tables, with florals growing up their branches. Greenery also cascaded from the chandeliers overhead, creating a canopy of romance. Draping elegantly framed the fireplace behind the sweetheart table, adding a touch of grandeur. The entire room was bathed in candlelight, creating an intimate and romantic atmosphere. It truly felt like stepping into an ancient Irish castle, filled with warmth and love.
The wedding reception featured tray-passed appetizers including charred beef tenderloin crostini, California goat cheese crostini, togarashi seared ahi tuna, petite crab cakes, and petite croque monsieur. The beverage service included a 7-hour open bar with a selection of wines, beers, spirits, and signature cocktails like a blood orange margarita and an old fashioned. Dinner offered a three-course plated meal with options such as braised beef short ribs or cedar plank salmon, and a dessert bar with items like macarons and mousse cups. A late-night taco bar and espresso martinis were also provided.
And let’s not forget the music! A full band kept the energy high throughout the night, especially on the dance floor. The sheer joy and celebration were palpable, with guests dancing and laughing under the soft glow of the chandeliers.
Ali and Patrick’s wedding was a testament to the power of thoughtful design and personal touches. It was a celebration of their love story, their heritage, and their shared future. Every detail, from the grand greenery arch at the church to the immersive ballroom design, was carefully curated to create an unforgettable experience.
Working with Ali and Patrick was an absolute dream. Their vision, trust, and genuine warmth made this wedding one of the most memorable events I’ve had the pleasure of planning. It was a true honor to be a part of their special day, and I wish them a lifetime of happiness as magical as their wedding.
