Autumn Retro-Inspired  Wedding at Santa Barbara Historical Museum with all the Velvet, Textured Florals, and Star Lanterns

Weddings

Isabella and Jake were  married at the classic Santa Barbara Historical Museum in downtown Santa Barbara.   A true autumn affair, Bella and Jake wanted to have a large party with all of their family and friends with autumnal flavors,  colors, and details.   It was such an incredible night!

Getting Ready

Bella wore a modern bridal gown with beautiful prada shoes.  For the ceremony, she wore a textured veil with pearls.  Jake wore a retro-inspired neutral suit.  To switch up some of the traditions, Bella chose to  have a “Man of Honor,” who wore a cognac velvet coat, and Jake chose to have “Best Woman,” who wore an autumnal dress,  complementing the rest of the bridesmaids.  Bella carried a bouquet created with dahlias, ranunculus, garden roses, and textured dried elements.  The entire bridal party was so fun – we loved the mismatched dresses,  suits, shoes, and jumpsuits that created the perfect autumnal look.

Ceremony

The ceremony took place in the garden courtyard at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum.  The aisle was lined with florals and pampas, and the arch was created with textured autumn blooms.  It was tall, full, and luxurious – we loved all the little details – from seed pods to baby’s breath, the arch was so textured and fun!

Cocktail Hour

For cocktail hour, the bar was adorned with a rainbow of autumn flowers, fading from autumn tones to monochromatic dried white blossoms.  In lieu  of a traditional guest book, guests left handwritten “wishes” on hand-made paper that was then hung on olive trees, inspired by the wishing tree in Venice. To guide each guest to their seats, K Designs created a ceramic display of names on pottery, and we created a greenery display in the pots as a warm welcome to dinner.  Guests enjoyed a full open bar with passed appetizers,  including miniature California Fish Tacos, miniature margaritas,  fresh spring rolls with edible flowers inside, and Brie en Croute.

Reception

Guests dined under a canopy of bistro lights covered in greenery at round tables with neutral linens,  natural ceramic china, vintage glassware, rust velvet napkins, and gold flatware.  The bride hand-made leather tags on each menu for the guests.   A small piece of star anise was also placed at each place setting as an autumnal accent.  The large bridal party dined at a wooden feasting table,  which provided a warm focal for the reception space.   Over the dance floor, a multitude of star lanterns made the space feel extra festive and warm!  The guests enjoyed an autumnal-inspired meal, including a farm-to-table wedge salad course, a salmon course, filet mignon  with  mushrooms  and shallots, a yukon gold and sweet potato gratin, and  orange-honey roasted carrots.
My favorite thing about this wedding was the relationship between the bride and her mom.   They had such a FUN dynamic throughout  the whole wedding planning process, and it was truly a joy to work with them.  The love this family had for each other was inspiring and made me smile the entire day.   It was truly an evening to remember!
